What Makes a Dog Photography Session Special
An Experience Where All Dogs and Their Humans Truly Belong
How do I find a dog photographer who understands both my dog and my family?
Love takes many forms, and every bond deserves to be celebrated. As a Minneapolis dog photographer and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, I've created a welcoming space where all families and their dogs can be exactly who they are – wiggles, zoomies, and everything in between.
What if my dog isn't well behaved for photos?
Worried about your dog being "perfectly behaved" during the session? That's where my experience and endless patience as a studio photographer comes in (trust me, after years of photographing dogs, I've seen it all!). Whether your pup is a bouncing bundle of energy, anxious in new environments, or reactive around strangers, we'll create dog portraits that capture their true personality.
Working with me, you'll experience:
A patient guide who speaks fluent dog and understands their unique communication style
A judgment-free zone for all families and their fur babies – LGBTQ+ families especially welcome
Expert guidance from first consultation through selecting your final artwork
Professional dog photography that celebrates your dog's genuine spirit and personality
Can you imagine walking past your wall every day and seeing that perfect moment preserved – your dog's unique personality shining through in stunning portraits? These aren't just photos; they're daily reminders of the incredible bond you share that will make you smile each time you see them.
Meggie says:
I am not a perfect dog! My mom and dad love me anyway.
I thought it would be fun to jump onto the top of the chair, and my silly photographer enjoyed my antics.
We rolled with it. Aren’t I a cutie pie??
Have you ever noticed how your dog lives completely in the present moment?
Within your circle of trusted beings, dogs are unique in their ability to give you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.
Though we try to push it away, that nagging awareness that our time with our dogs is limited often surfaces. Maybe you've tried capturing special moments on your smartphone, only to find the results don't quite capture what makes your relationship special.
What if you could freeze time and preserve your dog's quirky, lovable personality in artwork that lasts for generations?
I've got you, fur parent.
I help dog-loving Minneapolis-St. Paul families celebrate their special bond by creating timeless, customized artwork that documents what makes your relationship unique.
Meet your dog photographer
Hi! I'm Lisa.
I'm a proud Crazy Dog Mom and a dog and people photographer based in Minneapolis. I founded Pawsh Photography because I believe every parent deserves beautiful images of their beloved fur babies – dogs and kids alike. If you'd like to meet me and my dog Snickers, here are a few videos. I sure did love that gal. Sadly, she crossed the rainbow bridge in October 2024. I miss her every day.
I am deeply passionate about ensuring all beings feel comfortable in our studio. Having not always felt welcome, much less accepted or celebrated simply for being my awkward, introverted, anxiety-ridden, lesbian self, I understand firsthand how important it is to create truly inclusive spaces.
All beings are affirmatively welcome here. I believe if humans were as accepting as dogs, the world would be a much better place. Dogs love unconditionally and don't judge – and neither do we.
I love working with other dog-loving people who understand that our pets are family.
Most of all, I love proving that any dog – yes, even yours – can be wildly successful with pet photography. It just takes patience, positivity, and understanding. Untrained or reactive dogs and imperfect humans are actually my perfect clients!
My clients often call me the dog whisperer because of my ability to connect with dogs of all personalities and temperaments.
Together, we'll create the ultimate photography experience – easy, fun, and joyful – that celebrates the special bond you share with your dog.
I can't wait to welcome you and your fur baby to my Minneapolis studio!

Who’s behind the camera?
-
Founder + Photographer. Snickers' Mom.
When I'm not taking photos of dogs and their humans, you'll find me puttering in the kitchen, lifting heavy weights at the gym, enjoying craft beer and pizza at Surly, or visiting the beautiful North Shore of Minnesota.
My soul is happiest when I get to be with my beautiful wife. She is my soulmate and an exquisite gift from the Universe.
I am a proud fur parent to Duchess – a cat I gained through marriage, and until recently, Snickers, a chihuahua-whippet rescue from Puerto Rico. Sadly, Snickers passed away in October 2024. I am forever changed for the better thanks to her devoted companionship. We loved our treat runs: Snickers and I shared a love for Culver's frozen custard, and we reached an understanding – neither of us shared! I'm a Wisconsin farm girl after all. (Go Packers!)
I'd love to hear about your dog and what makes them special. I'll be honored to work with you, so please contact me today.
P.S. - I use she/her pronouns. What are yours?
-
Chief Pawsitivity Officer EmeritusA native of Puerto Rico, Snickers enjoyed napping under her mom's desk, giving amazing if slightly sloppy kisses, and never sharing her Culver's frozen custard.
She made even the most frustrating day fun and exciting.
She loved her long walks in the park and treats in her doggy puzzle board.
After an unexpected and sudden illness, Snickers sadly passed away in October 2024. I miss her every day.
She will always be my pawsitivity officer.
I Bet I Know What You’re Thinking…
Will My Dog Cooperate for Professional Photos?
"Yeah, but you haven't met MY DOG."
The one with the attention span of a gnat, who refuses to look at the camera and has selective hearing on the best of days.
"Good luck getting a good photo of them!"
If that is where your brain is right now, you are not alone.
Here's what I want you to know: Any dog – even YOURS – can be wildly successful at dog photography.
I've seen it all and worked with dogs of all personalities:
High-energy puppies who can't sit still
Anxious rescues who need extra time to feel comfortable
Reactive dogs who bark at new people
Senior dogs who move at their own pace
Dogs who are completely uninterested in treats or toys, (or are deaf or blind)
My goal is to make both you and your dog feel comfortable, confident, and secure throughout the entire photography experience.
What if my dog needs a leash during photos?
You are always welcome to keep your dog on a leash during our photo shoot. Leashes are required at most outdoor locations in Minneapolis anyway. Having the leash typically decreases anxiety for both dogs and humans.
Whether or not your dog needs a leash, you can stay close to your dog throughout the entire session – even in the studio.
Don't worry about the leash ruining the photos – I'll remove it seamlessly in my post-production process.
Here's an example of before and after leash removal. You’ll see in the video that Meggie was on a leash, and her dad Derek held the leash over her shoulder blades while her mom Jessica and I worked together to direct Maggie’s attention where I wanted. She did great! And note nobody expected this lovely dog Meggie to be perfect.

Behind the Scenes of Your Dog Photo Shoot
Ever wonder what really goes into creating those joy-filled, loving moments you see in my gallery? Let me pull back the curtain on the magic (and yes, there are plenty of treats involved). Here are BTS videos from outdoor and in studio sessions.
What truly makes this experience special isn't about getting your dog to perform perfectly – it's about capturing those authentic moments of connection that show your unique relationship. Whether you're a busy professional documenting memories with your heart dog, a couple celebrating your chosen family, or bringing multiple generations together, these sessions create space to slow down and truly connect.
And it that connection we will showcase in your artwork. It will mean so much to you.
Your Story. Your Pace.
Dogs First. Always.
As your Minneapolis dog photographer, I've developed a stress free process that prioritizes connection and comfort. Before your session, we'll talk about everything that makes your dog unique:
Are they motivated by cheese? Tennis balls? Squeaky toys?
Do they need time to warm up to new environments?
What makes them feel most comfortable and secure?
During your dog photography session, we take things entirely at your pup's pace. Some dogs are natural models who strut confidently in front of the camera, while others need time to explore and settle in. Both approaches are perfectly fine! Your session includes plenty of breaks for treats, belly rubs, and water – just like any good play date should.
Want to see what a real session looks like? Check out these behind-the-scenes moments.

Special Situations:
Can You Accommodate My Dog's Unique Needs?
Puppies
Yes, we love puppy energy! Sessions are kept short and playful with plenty of breaks to accommodate short attention spans.
Senior & End-of-Life Dogs
These sessions are thoughtfully paced for your dog's comfort. We understand these sessions are emotional and honor them with extra care. For these sessions, I will meet you at your home if your dog is too ill to travel. Read more about these special sessions.
Multiple Dogs
We welcome the whole pack! Sessions are structured to capture both individual personalities and group dynamics. And I will never charge more for sessions with more than 2 dogs. The more love, the better!
Black Dogs
Never fear, parents of black dogs. I specialize in bringing out the beautiful detail in dark fur, even in bright sun. Your black dog's features will shine through!
Outdoor Sessions
Available year-round in and around Minneapolis. If your dog loves the snow, winter is actually the perfect time for dog photo sessions!
Vintage Sessions
If you're a nostalgic soul like me and love the timeless look of film, let me know. We can photograph your session in both film and digital formats for a unique blend of styles.
Camera Shy Humans
Prefer to stay out of the spotlight? I understand completely! I don't enjoy having my photo taken either. We can create beautiful images that include you without making you the focus:
"In but not in" photos that show hands, feet, or just parts of you with your dog
Out-of-focus compositions where you're present but your dog remains the star
Or simply beautiful portraits of your dog solo
I do encourage considering some photos together - I wish I had more images of me with Snickers now that she's gone.
How We Support the Minneapolis Dog Community
A portion of every full session supports Pet Haven, Minnesota's first foster-based rescue. Since 2018, we've helped fund medical care for over 50 rescue dogs and contributed over 200 volunteer hours.
Studio Location & Parking Information
Our Minneapolis studio is located at 1589 MN 7 in Hopkins. You'll find easy access with ample free parking right next to the door, and several dog-friendly restaurants and trails nearby for before or after your session.
