Vendor Spotlight- Shop Shaanti Dog Bandanas

It is said that you are most apt to fall in love when aren’t looking.

I think the same is true for finding your life’s purpose. Passion and purpose have a way of weaving themselves into your life. And sometimes life circumstances all but force them to the fore.

This is the case for Iris of Shop Shantii.

Mid 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic, and just after she was certified as a yoga instructor, Iris found herself in a challenging situation. Due to ruptured left Achilles tendon, she needed help with the most basic of living tasks. She couldn’t work, or even walk. Immobile, depressed and miserable, she was desperate to find something - anything - that would give her purpose.

Iris found joy in an unlikely and slightly esoteric pastime. Her sewing machine. Because her right foot was not injured, she was able to use her sewing machine to create dog bandanas for friends and family. It gave her something to do, and it helped her feel useful and more independent. Everyone loved her creations. And so, Iris decided to reinvent herself, and develop the pastime turned hobby into an official business. Thus, Shop Shantii was born.

Iris sews seasonal dog bandanas for her loyal customers. Her bandanas are made from soft flannel so they are both durable and soft for the (slightly spoiled) dogs who wear them. She perfected the practical design by sewing a pocket for the dog collar. No more wrangling the collar under or over the bandana! They are perfectly sized for any dog, from Papillon to Mastiff.

If you attend dog events in Minnesota, you are sure to see Iris’ booth. She frequently sells at Unleashed Hounds & Hops Pet Market, Woofstock, OMNI Brewing Company and many other locations. She is excited to be at Excelsior’s Christkindlemsmarket n November and December. This is her first time participating in the festival, and though she is excited she says that she is also a little apprehensive, because it’s outside and it’s cold in the Minnesota winters! Iris is feverishly preparing for the market by sewing most every day to increase inventory. Everyone anticipates a large turnout to the festival. Once the hustle and bustle of the market ends, and the holidays are over, Iris is looking forward to a quiet start to 2022.

The perfect dog

“He wanted to stay… he has been the perfect dog,” - Toffee is Iris’ model and foster fail.

Originally from Germany, Iris came to the US 4 years ago. When she is not at her sewing machine or scouring the fabric store, she loves being outside and playing sports, usually Toffee by her side.

She’s also started teaching yoga. Balance restored, purpose found.
